It’s hard to believe it’s been 30 years since the Range Rover Classic was introduced in North America, and over 20 years since the last soft-dash RRC rolled off the line.
Our families Series IIA 88” taught us early on; Land Rovers were tough. Our first 1995 RRC SWB showed us they could be beautiful as well. Love at first sight is a real thing, and our first RRC was true love. Since that first encounter we have spent a nonstop 15 years driving, tinkering, stress testing and improving these Beasts of Blighty.
Years of experience have allowed us to appreciate the marque as it was intended, as well as the knowledge to understand how the vehicle ages over time, her strengths and weaknesses, and what sorts of improvements can be made. At Congleton Service we firmly believe in originality, and doing things “Proper”. These cars were designed a certain way in the U.K. to deliver what Land Rover wanted for its clients.
We don’t build Range Rover Classics that stray too far from the original. What we do here is build the cleanest, most correct, most original Range Rover Classics in the world. It’s quite a statement, one that takes all day to live up to. We strive for the 50-year mark; Restorations that are going to last 50 years before the next rebuild is needed. Well cared for, our builds last indefinitely.
In contrast many people are building up hot-rod versions of the Classic, and this does not appeal to us. These are not true Range Rover Classics, and will never hold value over time. For this reason, we don’t believe in Corvette engines, superchargers, 8 speed transmissions or Dana 60 rear ends. Certainly we improve some systems to benefit our clients, but every effort is made to stay true to the heritage of the Range Rover Classic. This is the vehicle we have dedicated our lives and business to; this is the most iconic SUV ever.
When you open the bonnet on CS builds, the engine bay has a better and cleaner appearance than the day it rolled out of Solihull. This is no accident. It takes the successful completion, in proper order, of 10,000 operations to get the restoration to this point. Building this way is slow, painful, expensive and frustrating. We are here to tell you there are no shortcuts, no easy ways to save time on our builds, and no workarounds found on a forum.
This is highly skilled men, setting bolts and components by hand, six days a week. This is starting over if a step gets missed, and not being afraid to tear it down if it’s not perfect. This is the worlds most iconic SUV, hand-built in Colchester, Vermont. When you are ready to take the journey, we’d be honored to have it be in a Congleton Certified Classic. Thanks for visiting our site, hope we’ll see you soon.
